Three cats passed away in a house fire Friday night in Canandaigua.
Cheshire and East Bloomfield fire departments responded to 2490 Cooley Road just after 10 o’clock and found the fire in the living room. It is believed the fire in the living room fireplace spread to the kindling outside of the fireplace and the rest of the room. The majority of the fire damage was contained to the living room. Crews thoroughly checked for fire extension and completed overhaul operations.
While the fire was contained to the living room, the home sustained extensive damage and was deemed uninhabitable. The Red Cross is providing assistance to Ryan Havranek and his two children, who were displaced.
Investigators did credit Havranek, who closed exterior doors while exiting the home, which significantly helped prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the home.
The three deceased cats were recovered from the second floor of the home.
The fire remains under investigation by the county’s Emergency Management Office.
Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Canandaigua Ambulance, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and the county’s Emergency Management Office.
