Extreme Cold Exposure Leads to Animal Cruelty Arrest in Ontario County

SHARE NOW

An Ontario County resident was arrested Saturday following an investigation into an animal cruelty complaint involving a dog left outdoors during extreme cold conditions.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Jamie Lovejoy, of 4220 South Street, Stanley after receiving reports through 911 and the Humane Society that a canine had been left outside Friday night into Saturday without adequate shelter.  Investigators determined the dog had been left on a porch and suffered frostbite to its ears. The animal was taken to the Humane Society, where it is recovering and is expected to make a full recovery.

Lovejoy was charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of resisting arrest. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
