Suspected explosives, including what appeared to be sticks of dynamite and a live grenade, were discovered Friday at a home in Seneca County.
According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, investigators responded around 11:30 a.m. March 13 to a residence on Brewer Road in the Town of Waterloo, where they located what were believed to be multiple full-size sticks of dynamite and a live grenade.
As a precaution, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Device Squad was called to the scene. The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office also deployed K9 Frank, who is trained and certified in explosive detection.
Officials say the bomb squad safely removed the explosives from the residence, along with approximately 20 pounds of gunpowder.
Authorities say the incident was isolated to the home and investigators determined there was no direct threat to the community.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, North Seneca Ambulance and the Seneca County Department of Emergency Management.
The investigation remains ongoing.
