Several Finger Lakes nonprofits are receiving a financial boost from ESL Federal Credit Union.

The credit union awarded 105 grants in the third quarter of 2024, totaling $7.4 million to nonprofits throughout the greater Rochester area that provide services and programs to individuals and families. In the Finger Lakes, groups receiving funding include the Watne County Action Program, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and the Sodus Central School District.

“The programs and services provided by the nonprofit community in Greater Rochester are essential in strengthening our region,” said Maureen Wolfe, executive vice president /director, human resource and community impact, ESL Federal Credit Union. “ESL is proud to partner with these results-driven organizations who help individuals and families succeed in different areas of their lives.”

The Wayne County Action Program has been awarded $750,000 for the STEADY Work Youth Build Expansion Project. The group will leverage these funds as it seeks a $150 million grant from the Department of Labor in 2025 to help at-risk youth secure long-term employment.

$152,000 has been awarded to Hobart and William Smith Colleges to support “Geneva 2030,” a collective impact entity with the goal of enhancing childhood development and education through improvements throughout the community. The organization seeks to help children through data collection and analysis, community engagement, data-driven programming, and measurable outcomes.

The Sodus Central School District has received $47,900 for its Gathering to Dream & Learn: A Community Engagement through Placemaking project. Thanks to the funding, Wayne County Community Schools will expand its space for learning. This will provide options that meet the unique needs of families and support families, children aged birth to five, provide tutoring services, and workforce development.

ESL Federal Credit Union was founded in 1920 by George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, as the Eastman Savings and Loan Association.
