Earth Day Protests Planned Against Seneca Meadows

SHARE NOW

Claiming it is one of the biggest environmental threats to the Finger Lakes, local environmental advocates will hold a rally on Earth Day demanding Governor Kathy Hochul close Seneca Meadows Landfill in Seneca Falls.

The April 22nd rally will take place at Waterloo Container and will include representatives from Seneca Lake Guardian, elected officials from the city of Geneva, town of Skaneateles and town of Seneca Falls.

The group will also call on the state to develop what it calls comprehensive zero-waste legislation to phase out the need for solid-waste landfill.

The Seneca Falls Town Board originally voted to close Seneca Meadows by 2025, but the landfill has requested a permit to expand its operation and extend its permits through 2040
