Early Morning Fire Damages South Bristol Condo

SHARE NOW

Quick action by firefighters limited the spread of a fire at a condo complex in Ontario County Wednesday morning.

Cheshire Fire and Bristol Fire were dispatched to the scene on the first alarm. Cheshire Assistant Chief John Springer requested the second alarm assignment as well as the tanker task force due to multiple additional calls coming into the 911 center confirming a fire.

Upon the arrival of Assistant Chief Springer, he found heavy smoke emanating from the rear of the structure on the fourth floor of a large five-floor building. Cheshire Engine 411 crews deployed 300 ft of handline and initiated an aggressive interior attack while the crew from the City of Canandaigua Truck 281 performed a primary search to ensure no occupants were inside.

Cheshire Fire Chief Chris Brown said thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of all firefighters on the scene, the blaze was brought under control within fifteen minutes of arriving apparatus, preventing extensive damage and ensuring the safety of neighboring condos.

Crews checked neighboring condos for extension with negative results. An overhaul was performed to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. The fire damage was confined to one condo.

The building was safely evacuated, and no injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Ontario County Emergency Management.

Chief Brown added, “We would like to thank our mutual aid partners, including Bristol Fire Department, Naples Fire Department, City of Canandaigua Fire Department, Canandaigua Ambulance, Ontario County Emergency Management, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, East Bloomfield Fire and Victor Fire for their support and assistance during this operation. Additionally, we appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the neighboring residents affected by the incident.”
