If you travel out on Canandaigua Lake during the week, you may notice orange buoys with flags on the water.
Beginning Monday, Department of Environmental Conservation aquatic biologists will be using gill nets to monitor forage fish populations, mainly alewife. The nets will range 40-60 ft in depth and, in some cases, be relatively close to shore, according to the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association.
The buoys will mark where monitoring is taking place.
