DEC, Cornell Seeking Your Help With River Otters Management

SHARE NOW

Are you interested in river otters and their management? If so, you may be interested in participating in one of several focus group discussions that are sponsored by DEC.

DEC is developing a plan that will guide the management of river otters in New York for the next decade. The focus groups will help DEC learn more about what the public thinks of potential proposals related to otter management and what type of information the public finds important to include in the otter management plan. DEC staff will consider information from these meetings as they develop the management plan.

Meetings will be held in November or December in several different locations, including Canandaigua, Utica, and New Paltz. Each meeting will last about 2 hours. Participants will receive $30 and light refreshments will be served. Staff at Cornell University will convene the groups and facilitate group discussions.

If you would like to participate in one of these focus group discussions, you are asked to complete a few screening questions. Someone from Cornell University will then contact you by email with details about potential meeting times and dates.

For more information about the otter management focus groups please email William Siemer, Research Associate, Center for Conservation Social Sciences at Cornell University.
