The registration deadline for the 5th Annual Kickstart Wayne County Pitch competition is this Friday.
Speaking on FLX Morning, Ariel Camp with Wayne County Economic Development Corporation went over the requirements to compete.
“We need a business plan and we need some financial projections. So this is for businesses that are less than 3 years old or haven’t even started and are located in or going to be located in Wayne County and the owner lives in Wayne County.”
Participants are also required to attend a business class.
Five finalists will go on to present in person on November 15, at the BOCES Conference Center in Newark.
“They go and they present to the judges and the judges will ask some questions,” Camp continued. “They do their judging and then, at the end of the event, they announce the winners.”
The grand prize winner of the competition will receive $20,000 for their business idea. The runner-up gets $5,000.
There is also a youth version of the competition.
“We also have one for kids which is for kids in grades 9-12, and it’s similar except they don’t compete or pitch their idea in front of a panel of judges,” added Camp. “They just have to make a video and submit it with a simplified version of their business plan and some numbers.”
Up to $5,000 in prizes is available for the kids.
Registration information can be found on the county’s website.
