If you’ve been contemplating starting your own business or scaling up a new venture, now is the perfect time to act. Entrepreneurs in Wayne County have a unique opportunity to turn their business dreams into reality as the deadline for this year’s Pitch Competition approaches.

Organized by the Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), the competition offers a transformative chance to win $20,000 for aspiring and early-stage business owners, with a secondary $5,000 award available for a business in need of a smaller boost.

Organizers say with entrepreneurship on the rise nationwide, Wayne County’s Pitch Competition could be an entrant’s springboard to success. Whether you’re still developing a concept or already in operation for up to three years, this competition is designed to help entrants move forward. Winning could mean the difference between a business idea that remains on paper and one that becomes an established name in the Wayne County business community. Beyond the financial awards, participating in the competition connects entrepreneurs with invaluable resources and feedback from seasoned judges.

To enter, submit a completed registration form along with a $50 application fee, an executive summary of your business plan, and financial projections for the next three years. Existing businesses must also provide current financial statements. Additionally, reach out to WEDC to complete the required free entrepreneurial business training.

On November 14th, finalists will present their business pitches to a panel of judges and a live audience, showcasing their ideas and competing for the top awards. These pitches will offer a chance to illustrate how each business can contribute meaningfully to the local economy and drive Wayne County’s growth and prosperity.

In past years, this competition has reportedly injected over $100,000 into local businesses, helping them grow and thrive. Businesses like Maintenance Mike Handyman Service, The Fairville Baker, and Sodus Bay Outfitters have all benefited from the support they received through the Pitch Competition, using the funds to expand their operations and continue serving the community.

The deadline for applications is September 27th at 4 PM.
