One of the men convicted for kidnapping and torturing a man in the city of Geneva almost three years ago is now on trial for murder in the Southern Tier.
Jury selection started Monday in Chemung County in the trial of Eddie Marte. He is one of four people charged in the January 2021 torture and murder of an Elmira man whose body was found three months later in a remote area of Pennsylvania. Marte and Malik Weems, who was also arrested in the Elmira case, were convicted of holding their Geneva victim at gunpoint in April of 2021, beating him with belts and cords, and burning him with a knife.
