Convicted Geneva Kidnapper Found Guilty of Murder in Elmira

SHARE NOW

A man who is serving a 15-year prison sentence for kidnapping and torturing a man almost three years ago in Geneva has been convicted of murder in the Southern Tier.

A Chemung County jury deliberated for less than two hours Monday before finding Eddie Marte guilty of kidnapping and murder. Marte was one of four people charged in the January 2021 torture and murder of an Elmira man, whose body was found three months later in a remote area of Pennsylvania.

Marte and Malik Weems, who was also arrested in the Elmira case, were convicted of holding their Geneva victim at gunpoint in April of 2021, beating him with belts and cords, and burning him with a knife.

Marte could face life in prison without parole when sentenced on the Elmira conviction in July.
