The cleanup of contamination at the former Parkway Plaza Cleaners on Eastern Boulevard in Canandaigua is now complete.
The site is currently a one-story coin-operated laundromat with adjoining restaurants on either side but was home to a commercial dry cleaner from the 1960s to 1991. An investigation showed soil and groundwater contamination at the site from dry cleaning solvent, perchloroethylene, and breakdown products. About 21 cubic yards of contaminated soil were removed from the site and replaced with clean fill capped with new asphalt.
A site management plan for the long-term management of residual contamination was also developed as part of the remedial plan.
