He won a special election on August 23rd to fill the remainder of Tom Reed’s term in Congress and on September 14th was sworn in. Now, Joe Sempolinski’s brief tenure in the House of Representatives has come to an end with Nick Langworthy taking over as the district’s new representative. Sempolinski reflected on his time serving the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier in Washington during the final four months of 2022.
“Thank you to my friends and neighbors in the 23rd district for allowing me to be their voice in Washington. I am proud of what we achieved together,” said Sempolinski. “I’d like to thank my team for their hard work and dedication in ensuring that we were successful. Our number one priority was always to have the people of the 23rd’s best interests at heart, and I believe that is exactly what we achieved. I want to thank everyone who went to a town hall, called my offices, or stopped me on the streets to talk. You made me a better Representative because of your insightful thoughts and input. And finally, I would like to thank my family for their love and support. Knowing that they were by my side when I started this journey made me all the more proud of what we were able to accomplish. This has truly been the honor of a lifetime to represent the community that I love and has given me everything.”
With the new year comes a new look for the 23rd Congressional District. The approved redistricting for the district includes Schuyler and Steuben counties, while Yates, Ontario, and Seneca counties are now in the 24th District, which is represented by Republican Claudia Tenney.
