Crews have removed the gas pumps and torn down a gas station in Clifton Springs after the state DEC confirmed contamination in soil at the site.
One week ago, the DEC’s Spill Response Team was called to Crosby’s on Kendall Street after nearby businesses reported gasoline odors, which were traced back to the sanitary sewer. WROC in Rochester reports the issue began on July 31st when the gas station’s Premium Tank failed a test and two other tanks failed tightness tests one week later.
The DEC said there has been no evidence of new petroleum in the most recent groundwater monitoring well testing.
