With winter weather here in the Finger Lakes, one not-for-profit needs your help keeping families across Cayuga and Seneca Counties warm.
Community Action Programs (CAP) Cayuga/Seneca operates two clothes closets in Auburn and Waterloo, serving their respective counties. The program provides free clothing and household essentials to low-income individuals and families.
Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, CAP Cayuga/Seneca Deputy Director Marie Montgomery said there is an immediate need for winter clothing at both locations.
“We’re definitely seeing a need for coats and hats and boots, proper footwear as well as outerwear for the winter season,” Montgomery said.
Montgomery also commented on the difficulty the closets have in anticipating the needs of their clientele.
“The need is endless,” she continued. “We never know who’s going to be walking in from day to day and what their particular need is going to be.”
According to Montgomery, both closets have an immediate need for men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing in all sizes, with a particular emphasis on winter footwear and children’s clothing. For household items, bedding, pots and pans, towels, and other essentials are in short supply.
Those interested in donating their gently used items can contact Emily Tortorici in Auburn at 315-255-1703 ext 147, or Caroline Fay in Waterloo at 315-539-5647 ext 324. More info on the not-for-profit can be found at caphelps.org.
