A Canandaigua woman has been convicted of stealing more than $75,000 from her employer.

44-year-old Monique Barrette-Lewis was found guilty this week in Ontario County Court for using her employer’s business credit cards for personal expenses. Investigators say she spent more than $75,000 over six months.

Barrette-Lewis was convicted of two counts of Grand Larceny and a single count of Scheming to Defraud, all felonies.

The crimes took place between October 2023 and April 2024 in the Town of Victor. After the verdict, she was taken into custody.

Ontario County District Attorney Jason MacBride said, “Financial crimes like this break trust and hurt people. We’re committed to holding anyone accountable who abuses their position for personal gain.”

First Assistant DA James Nobles added that the jury carefully reviewed the evidence and made a thoughtful decision.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 18 at 2 p.m., and Barrette-Lewis faces at least three years in prison.
