A Canandaigua woman faces charges after her pit bull allegedly attacked and killed another dog while running loose last week.
Around 9 a.m. last Sunday, Canandaigua Police responded to reports of a loose dog near Mason and Clark streets. Before officers arrived, the pit bull broke free from its owner’s leash as she was walking it, ran across the street, and attacked a 12-year-old terrier. Police rushed the terrier to an emergency veterinary clinic but the dog died during transport. 30-year-old Alyssa Kemp managed to restrain her pit bull until police arrived. She has been ticketed for having a dangerous dog, and the animal remains in Humane Society custody pending a decision by Canandaigua City Court.
Authorities noted a previous incident involving the same dog running loose in 2023, which was handled by Farmington Town Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
