Canandaigua Reaches Settlement With Slain Parole Officer’s Family

SHARE NOW

Almost six years after Sandy Guardiola was shot and killed by a Canandaigua Police Sergeant at her residence, a settlement has been reached for the city to pay the victim’s family $1.5 million.

Guardiola was killed by Sgt. Scott Kadien after he went to her  Pinnacle North apartment on October 4th, 2017 to see why she hadn’t made it to work at a parole office. Police say Guardiola was lying in her bed and not speaking coherently. She then fired a shot with her 9mm service gun and then pointed the gun at Sgt. Kadien, who returned fire and fatally struck Guardiola. An Ontario County Grand Jury ruled the shooting was justified.

Kadien retired from the department in 2019 after 23 years of service.
