Two Firefighters Honored for Saving Life

SHARE NOW

Two firefighters with the Canandaigua Fire Department have been recognized for saving the life of another person last Fall.

Captain Jay Boock and firefighter Ryan Foster were both presented “Life Saving Awards” on Tuesday by the Ontario County Safety Council for their response to an emergency call on November 12th of a man with a serious hemorrhage. Both firefighters arrived on the scene first and took turns holding pressure on the femoral artery bleed as the patient was transported from a city residence to the hospital. Due to the area of the injury, a tourniquet was not feasible so using their hands was the only lifesaving option available to Foster and Boock.

The patient was later taken to a Rochester hospital and recovered.
