One person was displaced by a fire at a North Pleasant Street home in the city of Canandaigua.
The fire broke out around 8:30 Tuesday morning and heavy smoke was seen coming from the eaves of the large two-and-a-half-story, two-family home as emergency crews arrived on the scene. Everyone inside was able to get out safely but a dog that was located inside by firefighters eventually succumbed despite efforts to revive it. Firefighters reportedly found heavy fire conditions in the kitchen area of the rear apartment with fire extension to the second floor. Due to the extent of the fire, the overhaul took some time to complete.
Investigators say only one of the two apartments was being lived in at the time of the fire. The cause is under investigation.
Ontario County 911, Canandaigua Emergency Squad, the City of Canandaigua Police and Code Enforcement offices, Ontario County Humane Society, RG&E, and NYSEG all assisted the Canandaigua City Fire Department with this incident. Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department provided fill-in coverage for Canandaigua during the fire.
