A Canandaigua man who is on parole for previous weapons charges was arrested on new charges following a traffic stop in the city of Rochester.
Tyjuan Mason was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over on Lake Avenue for driving with no headlights. As the driver went to get the paperwork out of the vehicle’s glovebox, troopers say they spotted a handgun. The weapon was later identified as a Beretta APX 9mm loaded with a 17 round magazine.
Mason was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one for allegedly possessing the handgun and the second was for his prior conviction of possessing a weapon. The driver, Mackenzie McFarland, of Rochester, was charged with DWI and weapons possession.
