A home on State Route 21 in the Town of Canandaigua was heavily damaged in a fire late Tuesday night.
The Cheshire Fire Department was dispatched around 11:11 p.m., with automatic mutual aid from Bristol. Crews had been handling another call at the time but quickly rerouted to the scene, where they found heavy flames coming from the rear of the home at 5337 State Route 21.
Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, and the nearest water source was about five miles away, multiple tanker trucks from departments across Ontario County were brought in to help supply water.
No injuries were reported. Two dogs were inside the home during the fire; one escaped, while the other died.
The Ontario County Emergency Management Office is investigating the cause.
Agencies assisting at the scene included fire departments from Bristol, VA, Naples, East Bloomfield, Hopewell, West Bloomfield, Ionia, Shortsville, Manchester, Seneca Castle, and Honeoye, along with the Canandaigua Emergency Squad, Town of Canandaigua Code Enforcement, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and Ontario County Emergency Management.
