Members of the City of Canandaigua Fire Department took part in a training on Tuesday with the LUCAS device.
A LUCAS device is a mechanical device used in medical emergencies, specifically for automated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It provides consistent chest compressions to cardiac arrest patients, helping maintain blood circulation when performed by emergency responders. The device is designed to improve CPR quality and increase survival chances. Its capability to deliver effective and continuous chest compressions allows EMS providers to focus on other critical aspects of care during resuscitation efforts
The fire department automatically responds to any higher acuity medical call in the city to assist crews with anything from patient care to safe patient extrication.
