The Canandaigua Emergency Squad is alerting the public to an isolated email phishing incident involving a fraudulent message that appears to have come from the organization.
In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, officials said a scam email originating from a CES email account is currently circulating. The message references “work orders” and may include attachments or links, but authorities say it is not legitimate and is part of a phishing scheme.
The agency is working with its IT service provider to investigate and prevent further fraudulent activity. At this time, officials believe the issue is limited to a single email account and say there is no evidence that any confidential or proprietary information was accessed.
Recipients who receive the suspicious email are advised not to open attachments, click on links, or reply to the message. Instead, they should delete it immediately.
CES officials said they take cybersecurity seriously and regret any concern or inconvenience the incident may cause. They also thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation as the matter is addressed.
The statement was issued by Deputy Chief of Administration and Public Information Officer David D. Hubble. Media inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
