Canandaigua City Manager Appointed to NYCOM Committee

John Goodwin, Manager of the City of Canandaigua, has been appointed to a one-year term on the Executive Committee of the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials. Mayor RuthAnn Loveless of the Village of Hamilton, President of the Conference of Mayors, made the selection.

Mr. Goodwin, who became the President of the New York State City/County Management Association in May, will represent NYCOM’s affiliate organizations. He is the only member of the Executive Committee who is not a mayor.

In announcing the appointment, Mayor Loveless stated, “John’s extensive hands-on experience in local government administration, coupled with his professional qualifications, positions him as an excellent candidate for our Executive Committee. His wealth of knowledge and track record of success will undoubtedly be an asset to NYCOM as we work to advance our mission and goals.”

Goodwin has served as the City Manager for the City of Canandaigua since July 2017. He previously served as Assistant City Manager for Canandaigua (2014-2017) and Assistant to the Village
Manager in Scarsdale, NY (2009-2014). John earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, SUNY. He is an ICMA-Credentialed City Manager and a National Public Employer Labor Relations Association Certified Labor Relations Professional. John is also a member of NYCOM’s Employee Relations and Public Safety Committee and previously served on the NYCOM’s Environment, Energy, and Technology Committee.

The New York State Conference of Mayors serves and represents our state’s 575 cities and villages, ranging from the smallest village to the City of New York. NYCOM has been in existence since 1910.
