A deadly crash shut down parts of Route 5&20 late Wednesday morning after a box truck and an SUV collided at the intersection of Cooley Road, Hickox Road, and 5&20 in the town of Canandaigua.
Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened just before 11 a.m. The box truck was headed west on 5&20 when it collided with an SUV traveling north on Hickox Road. The impact caused the truck to strike a utility pole, trapping the driver inside. First responders pronounced the truck driver dead at the scene.
The SUV’s driver was not hurt, but a child passenger was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with shoulder pain.
The Cheshire Fire Department, New York State Police, and the Ontario County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene. Sections of 5&20, Hickox Road, and Cooley Road remain closed while investigators work to determine what caused the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office says the name of the victim will be released once the family is notified.
