UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect Following Canandaigua Water Main Break

SHARE NOW

4 p.m. UPDATE

The boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of the City and Town of Canandaigua, as well as the Canandaigua-Farmington Water District, while crews continue work to ensure the water supply is safe.

Officials say the advisory will stay in place until laboratory testing confirms the water meets all safety standards following Tuesday’s water main break. Residents in the affected areas should continue to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth until further notice.

City and town officials say they’re exercising utmost caution and will provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available.

11 a.m. UPDATE (Wednesday):

City officials say repairs to the water main break that disrupted service in Canandaigua on Tuesday have been completed, but a boil water notice remains in effect as testing continues.

The break, which caused a loss of water pressure throughout parts of the city, was repaired Tuesday evening. However, because the system was depressurized, officials say there is a potential for microbiological contamination.

As a precaution, residents are being advised to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing dishes until further notice.

City officials say a series of water quality tests must now be completed to confirm the water is safe. The earliest the New York State Department of Health could lift the advisory is Friday morning, depending on the test results.

Residents will be notified once the boil water notice is lifted.

The City of Canandaigua is managing an active water main break as of 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday. The break has affected portions of the municipal water system and city crews are currently working to identify the cause and restore full service to the area.

Residents in the affected areas who still have running water are being advised to boil all water before consumption until further notice. This includes anyone who lives in the City of Canandaigua, Towns of Canandaigua, Hopewell, Farmington, Manchester, and portions of the Wayne County Water Authority.

The City has announced that it will provide updates as additional information becomes available and once the advisory has been lifted.
