Bitter cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills have forced the cancellation of Phelps’ first-ever Frozen Fest, which had been scheduled for this weekend.
Organizers announced the decision on the festival’s Facebook page, citing rapidly falling temperatures and forecast wind chills approaching 20 below zero. Officials said the extreme conditions would make it unsafe to hold outdoor activities.
In the post, organizers wrote, “Due to extreme cold and anticipated wind chills near -20°F, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this weekend’s events for everyone’s safety. While we’re disappointed, keeping our community safe comes first. Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe and warm, and stay tuned for all that Phelps has to offer and upcoming events.”
The cancellation marks a setback for what would have been the festival’s inaugural year, but organizers said safety remains their top priority.
