Area Counties to Benefit from 2026 NYS DOT Paving Plan

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT)will make its biggest paving investment in history next year.

“As someone who has ridden on virtually every mile of every state road across New York, I know firsthand every curve and every pothole, and next year we will be making an unprecedented investment to improve state roads across New York,” Governor Hochul said. “New Yorkers will be seeing crews out there like never before next year, rejuvenating highways, enhancing the safety of the traveling public, and laying a solid foundation for economic development across the Empire State.”

The governor announced on Thursday that the state will leverage $800 million secured in the state budget to renew dozens of vital state roadways in 2026. The DOT will invest over $600 million in 180 paving projects, totaling nearly 2,150 lane miles. This is in addition to the projects already scheduled as part of the DOT’s core programs.

Area projects are broken down by county below:

Cayuga

  • $2.5 million to resurface Route 34, from Long Hill Road to Mosher Road in the Towns of Scipio and Venice.
  • $3.6 million to rehabilitate Route 34B from Route 90 in King Ferry to County Route 34B and Route 90 from Route 38 in Locke to Route 34 in Genoa in the Towns of Genoa, Locke, Ledyard, and Venice.

Cayuga County Legislature Chairman Jonathan Anna said, “We’re deeply grateful to Governor Hochul and the New York State Department of Transportation for this historic investment in our roads,” said Jonathan Anna, Chair of the Cayuga County Legislature. “The resurfacing and rehabilitation of Routes 34 and 34B will make travel safer, strengthen connections between our rural communities, and support the local economy that depends on these vital corridors. This is a major win for Cayuga County residents and businesses alike.”

Onondaga

  • $8.5 million to resurface the Route 5 bypass from Old Route 5 to Route 695 in the Town of Camillus.

Ontario

  • $1.4 million to resurface Route 14 from the Yates County Line to the City of Geneva in the Town of Geneva.

Ontario County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jared Simpson said, “As the Supervisor of the Town of Canandaigua and Chairman of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, I am thrilled to recognize the historic investment by NYSDOT of over $600 million for vital road resurfacing. This proposal includes 350 miles of work in the Finger lakes region including projects in Ontario County and The Town of Canandaigua. This extensive road resurfacing plan from NYSDOT will greatly enhance our cities, towns, and villages, ensuring safer and smoother travel for all. I look forward to seeing the positive impact of these investments and am grateful for the strong relationship we have with our state partners.”

Schuyler

  • $995,000 to overlay Route 224 between Odessa and Alpine Junction.
  • $650,000 to resurface Route 14 from Montour Falls to Watkins Glen.
  • $800,000 to resurface Route 227 from Stage Road to Black Road.
  • $950,000 to overlay Route 228 and a small portion of 227 (in Perry City) between the Hector Town Line to Perry City.

Seneca

  • $2.5 million to resurface Route 414, from Route 336 to Spruce Lane in the Towns of Seneca Falls, Fayette, and Varick.

Steuben

  • $650,000 to resurface Route 417 between Greenwood and Jasper.
  • $1.6 million to resurface Route 352 between Gibson and the Corning Hospital.
  • $1.5 million to resurface I-86 between Bath and Savona.
  • $580,000 to resurface Route 248 from Canisteo to Steuben/Allegany County Line.

Tompkins

  • $2.9 million to resurface Route 89 from the Ithaca City Line to Seneca County in the Towns of Ithaca and Ulysses.
  • $11.5 million to resurface Route 13, from the Ithaca North City line to East of Irish Settlement Road/George Road in the City of Ithaca, Towns of Ithaca and Dryden, and Villages of Cayuga Heights and Lansing.

Wayne

  • $4.4 million to resurface Route 104 from Furnace Road to Pound Road in the Towns of Ontario and Williamson, Wayne County.
  • $867,950 million to resurface Route 31F from Route 31 to the Monroe/Wayne County Line in the Town of Macedon, Wayne County.

Yates

  • $1.5 million to overlay Route 14 from Randalls Crossing to the Ontario County Line, Yates County
