APT Gets $150K to Support the Arts in 5 FLX Counties

$150,000 will go to support the arts in five Finger Lakes counties.

State Senator Rachel May has secured funding to allow Auburn Public Theater to create its own regrants program. Residents of Cayuga, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates Counties will be eligible to apply for the grants.

Public Arts applicants can apply for a maximum of $5,000 dollars while the maximum amount available to Individual Artist applicants will be $2,500. There will also be on general operating grant awarded for $10,000.

Senator May said on FLX Morning that this will allow APT to more directly help local arts projects and artists.

“The Cayuga County region has not been covered as well as it could be and I’m pretty proud to have gotten some additional funding so that Auburn Public Theater can administer those grants,” said May.

APT has previously done regrants through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Statewide Community Regrants program. This new program receives its funding directly from the state, meaning the theater’s grants don’t need to follow NYSCA guidelines.

APT Regrants Coordinator Dominic Gambaiani told Finger Lakes News Radio that its program will still be similar to NYSCA’s.

“I have modeled applications, amount maximums, and guidelines to what we previously used,” said Gambaiani, “but took out any NSYCA language as well as some stipulations.
He added that, at this time, Auburn Public Theater Regrants will be a one-time cycle. This means the theater could possibly go back to falling under the NYSCA SCR umbrella in 2025.

More information is available on APT’s website.
