After 25 years with the city of Geneva’s Recreation Department, Director David Sharman will be leaving this summer.

City Manager Amie Hendrix announced on Tuesday that Sharman will resign from his position effective July 11th. Sharman has been a fixture at the Recreation Department since November of 2000, moving from a seasonal employee to Recreation Supervisor and then to leading the department as the Recreation Director in 2017.

“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and enhancement of our beloved parks and recreation programs,” said Sharman. “Working alongside such a passionate, hardworking, and talented team has been a privilege. Together, we have accomplished so much, and I can see so much more to come for the City. As I move forward, I carry with me countless memories. I am confident that the Recreation Department will continue to thrive, creating even more inclusive and engaging, and accessible experiences for our community. My family and I love Geneva. Geneva has a lot of forward momentum regarding city recreation, and I know the community will continue to lean into that. I leave with a heart full of gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.”

City Manager Hendrix stated, “Dave has played an essential role in shaping the landscape of recreation in the City of Geneva and has been a vital member of our leadership team. During his time here, Dave has been pivotal in fostering the growth and development of recreation within the city, particularly in maintaining our recreational infrastructure, such as the Recreation Complex and Parks, and in providing programs for all ages through collaborations with other recreation providers. I wish him success in his future endeavors and eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for him and his family.”

Hendrix added that the city will initiate the process of finding a successor to ensure a seamless transition. In the meantime, current staƯ members will share the responsibilities of the position as the recruitment process takes place. This process will coincide with the search for a Director of Planning and Economic Development.
