The seventh-year of a multi-year cleanup effort of contaminated soil from properties located near the former Geneva Foundry Site on Jackson Street in the city is underway.
The DEC says up to 38 more contaminated properties are expected to be cleaned up this year, that’s in addition to the 179 properties already completed.
Air emissions from the former foundry’s furnace contained lead and arsenic, which were deposited onto the soil in the surrounding area.
