Geneva Police Department News Release –
On Friday, August 16th, 2024, the City of Geneva Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Lakefront
Drive between Lake Street and the Seneca Lake State Park entrance. This multi-agency detail included the New York
State Police and the Ontario County Stop DWI program coordinator. This detail was dedicated to the family of Charlena
Foster and John Hobart, both ages 63, who were tragically killed in a DWI accident on Routes 5&20 in the Town of
Geneva on November 7th, 2020.
The sobriety detail lasted five hours. A total of 716 vehicles were screened and provided with an educational pamphlet.
A total of 12 drivers were placed through standardized field sobriety tests and deemed safe to operate a motor vehicle
and were further educated about the effects of alcohol. There were 2 Driving While Intoxicated arrests made during this
event. Both drivers arrested for DWI were issued an appearance ticket to return to the City of Geneva Criminal Court
later.
