The “1st Ever Great Turkey Drop-Off” is coming to Waterloo this weekend, with FLX Local Media’s Classic Hits 99.3 joining forces with Wilkins RV, Reister’s Appliances, Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes, and Music for the Mission to help feed local families for Thanksgiving.
The event runs from 6 a.m. on Friday, November 14, through noon on Sunday, November 16, in the Walmart parking lot in Waterloo. Shoppers are encouraged to purchase frozen turkeys at Walmart and bring them to the RV and freezer setup on site.
Organizers are aiming to collect 500 turkeys to support families in Cayuga, Seneca, and Ontario counties through local food bank programs. Lisa Cruz of Classic Hits 99.3 will be broadcasting live all weekend, keeping the community updated on progress and encouraging donations. Other non-perishable food items and monetary donations will also be collected.
Organizers say if someone can’t make it, they can go to www.catholiccharitiesfl.org and make a donation with “turkey” typed in the comments.
“This is a great way for our community to come together and make sure everyone has a Thanksgiving meal,” Cruz said.
