A routine shift at the Victor Walmart turned into a criminal investigation after more than $10,000 went missing from a cash register. David Ashworth, a store employee, was arrested on Monday by Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Authorities say Ashworth removed the money during his shift on August 14, hid it in a money bag inside the store, and later concealed it on his person before leaving. The discovery prompted a swift investigation, leading to his arrest just days later.
Ashworth was arraigned at CAP Court on August 19 and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Victor Court at a later date to face charges of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
