Wednesday was a special day for those attending the New York State Sheriff’s Institute and Summer Camp on Keuka Lake just outside of the Village of Penn Yan. NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski stopped by to say hello to the campers and spend time with the young boys and girls. The 2012 Cup Series champion spent the day interacting with the campers and taking a fishing excursion out on the lake. He also had lunch with the campers before talking to the captivated group about NASCAR.
The New York State Sheriffs’ Summer Camp is for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 12 who because of economic reasons would not have an opportunity to attend a summer camp. Each New York County’s Sheriff’s Office is given a predetermined number of camper slots. Hundreds of kids each year attend the summer camp at no cost to their families due to the generosity of donors.
Keselowski’s teammate with RFK Racing, Ryan Preece made a stop at Bully Hill Vineyards at the southern end of the lake to learn about the art of winemaking while touring the vineyard and having a meet and greet with fans.
Keselowski and Preece will return to the region early next month as NASCAR race weekend returns to Watkins Glen International. The action starts on Friday, Aug. 8 with the ARCA Menards General Tire 100 at The Glen and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, followed by the NASCAR Xfinity Series Mission 200 at The Glen on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Then, on Sunday, Aug. 10, drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series will battle it out on the 2.45-mile road course in the Go Bowling at The Glen at Watkins Glen International.
