A Rochester man has been sentenced to 23 years to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a co-worker at the Wegmans warehouse in Gates.
33-year-old Kyshonn Green was found guilty of second-degree murder following a jury trial in May. Prosecutors said Green shot and killed fellow Wegmans employee J’Mere Ridley-Smith, 25, of Rochester, while both men were working at the company’s distribution center on Brooks Avenue in Gates.
Police said the shooting happened around 4:15 p.m. on July 26 inside the Wegmans facility on Brooks Ave. Gates Police Chief Rob Long said Ridley-Smith was loading pallets inside a cooler unit when he was shot multiple times.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Ridley-Smith dead at the scene. Investigators recovered multiple 9mm shell casings from inside the warehouse.
Authorities said Green fled New York after the shooting and was captured the following day in Knoxville, Tennessee, by the United States Marshals Service.
