Volunteers are needed tomorrow to take part in “I Love My Park Day” and Finger Lakes area residents are urged to be among those pitching in to get state parks ready for the upcoming season.
Thousands of New Yorkers will help to clean up parks and shorelines, plant trees and gardens, restore trails and wildlife habitat, remove invasive species, and support other site improvement projects.
he event is organized by Parks & Trails New York in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the Department of Environmental Conservation.
At Seneca Lake State Park, from 8a.m. to noon, volunteers will work on beach cleanup, painting, tree planting, lawn cleanup, and weeding flower beds. At Sampson State Park, from 10a.m. to 1p.m. you can help with flower bed planting and litter pickup. At Cayuga Lake State Park, stick and leaf cleanup; rake and spread playground mulch, pick up garbage, plant flowers at the park office and plant bushes in campground.
You can also volunteer at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, Chimney Bluffs State Park, and Ganondagan State Historic Site.
