A City of Geneva man has been arrested following a nearly year-long investigation into illegal weapon possession in the Village of Palmyra.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Armeal Whitfield was taken into custody on July 24 on Main Street in Geneva, with assistance from the Geneva Police Department.
The charges stem from an incident in August 2023, when deputies responded to a domestic call on Market Street in Palmyra. During the investigation, two handguns were seized from the residence—one of which had its serial number filed off.
Using DNA analysis, detectives later identified Whitfield as the person who had possessed the firearms. Due to his multiple prior felony convictions, Whitfield is legally prohibited from owning or handling weapons.
Whitfield has been charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
He was transported to the Wayne County Jail, where he awaits arraignment in Wayne County CAP Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
