With Christmas right around the corner, many have already put up and decorated their Christmas trees. But what happens to trees after the holiday?
In Cayuga County, residents can take part in the Cayuga County Soil and Water District‘s Trade a Tree program. Ryan Staychock with Cornell Cooperative Extension discussed the program on FLX Morning.
“This year, you can bring your tree in, trade it in, and get a gift certificate for a Fraser Fir that you can pick up at their annual spring tree and shrub sale that’s going to be on May 10,” said Staychock.
Staychock added that trees need to be clean of any ornaments, lights, or garland.
Trees can be dropped off for recycling at the Natural Resources Center at 7413 County House Road in Auburn during normal from December 26 to January 19. The center is open 7:30a-4:00p Monday-Friday.
