A Cayuga County-based nonprofit is celebrating its 50th anniversary by giving the public a chance to tour its new home.
West Lake Art Conservation Center (WLACC) has spent 50 years conserving paintings, paper works, and objects across New York for museums, universities, and private families.
For its 50th anniversary, WLACC invites the public to tour its new headquarters at the former Auburn Country Club/Lakeview Country & Golf Club, 6642 East Lake Rd, Owasco. The open house will take place September 20 from 4:00-6:00p, allowing the public to learn how art conservation works, tour the lab, meet staff, conservators, and board members, and learn how the center partners with various groups to preserve cultural relics.
“We’re excited to welcome our neighbors into the new space,” said Joey Foster Ellis, Executive Director. “This is both a celebration of our past fifty years and an invitation to be part of our future.”
WLACC had previously been located in Skaneateles, but moved to its current Owasco location this summer, breathing new life into the former country club. With the relocation to a facility with expanded laboratories, WLACC said it is “entering a new chapter as a regional nonprofit conservation center dedicated to preserving and protecting cultural heritage in this region and beyond.”
While the event is free and open to the public, RSVPs are encouraged and can be made by emailing [email protected].
WLACC was founded in 1975 with the goal of preserving historic and artistic objects for future generations.
