After the Village of Weedsport announced it would no longer provide its school district with a School Resource Officer, the Weedsport Central School District tapped the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office to provide security.
Speaking on FLX Morning, Sheriff Brian Schenck said an agreement is being finalized.
“We’re nearing the point where I think we’ll be signing a contract soon and we’ll have another Special Patrol Officer in a local school district providing those services,” Schenck said. “I’m very excited to partner with Weedsport.”
Funding for the Special Patrol Officer was included in the district’s $22.3 million budget for the 2023-24 school year.
