Weedsport Library Providing Kids with Halloween Costumes

SHARE NOW

One local library is helping families celebrate Halloween.

Weedsport Free Library Director Nicole Quinn told Finger Lakes News Radio that the library is offering gently used Halloween costumes to children for free at the library for them to use on Halloween and keep.

As part of this year’s Great Give Back, an initiative where New York State encourages public libraries and their patrons to give back to their communities, the library has been collecting and continues to collect Halloween costumes for children and families to take. Quinn said the program’s been a success.

Quinn added that pick-up is confidential. Those wishing to participate can go straight to a closet near the library’s entrance and pick out costumes for their children. Patrons are only asked to add tally marks on a nearby sheet so staff can keep track of how many costumes are still available.

The library is no stranger to helping area children find clothing items. Quinn stated that earlier this year, the library partnered with the Kind Kids Club at Weedsport Elementary School. The club has been collecting special clothing items to allow kids to participate in Spirit Week or other dress-up days. The library has been acting as a collection site for the club.

Patrons can drop off or pick up costumes during the library’s regular business hours from now through Halloween.
