A Boil Water Order has been issued for parts of Throop.
The order was issued Thursday after a section of the water main on Turnpike Road lost pressure during a break, increasing the chance of harmful microbes in the water. Affected homes include those on Donovan, Canoga Northrup, Nugent, Youngs, Webster, Griffin, and McDonald Roads as well as homes on Turnpike Road from 1412 up to and including 1916.
While repair work is underway, the Cayuga County Health Department anticipates the order remaining in effect for a few days. While the order is in effect, the department offers the following advice:
- Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using.
- Instead of boiling water, use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health.
- Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food and infant formula until further notice.
Residents seeking more information are encouraged to contact the Town of Throop at 315-252-7373, or the Cayuga County Health Department at 315-253-1560.
