With the Casey Park Ice Skating Rink in Auburn open for the season, the Cayuga County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) is reminding everyone that veterans, active duty military members, and their families can once again skate for free.
The veterans’ free skate came about last winter as the VSA sought new activities and events to offer to veterans. Cayuga County VSA Director Kevin Swab said it’s all about getting veterans and their families out into the community to support their health and wellness.
“Your physical and your mental health and getting out of your house are very important, so I’m trying these events or activities to get people to go out and do something.”
The rink is open for skating on Fridays from 6:00-9:00p and Saturdays and Sundays from 3:00-7:00p. Any changes or cancellations to this schedule due to tournaments or other events will be updated on the Casey Park/Falcon Park Facebook page.
A valid veteran/military ID is required to skate for free.
Additionally, Muzzi’s D’italia Ice at 2675 W Brutus Street in Weedsport has launched a mini arcade. Swab added that veterans and direct family members will be able to play for free.
