New York State Police in SP Auburn have released the name of the man who died in a snowmobile crash in the town of Victory last week.

49-year-old Robert Garrison, of Hannibal, was operating a 2022 Lynx snowmobile westbound on a designated trail that crosses Ira Station Road on January 27 at about 2:39 p.m. The trail is marked with stop signs on both sides of the road. Preliminary findings indicate Garrison did not stop before entering the roadway, crossed the northbound lane, and struck the plow blade of a southbound Town of Victory highway snowplow.

After the initial impact, the snowmobile hit a wooden utility pole with an attached electrical box and caught fire. Garrison was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

The snowplow, a 2019 International Harvester, was driven by a 45-year-old man, who was cooperative and showed no signs of impairment.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.
