One local nonprofit has launched its Giving Tuesday campaign early as it seeks to support individuals in need across eight counties.
Unity House of Cayuga County is hoping to raise $25,000 for its general fund. Kelly Buck, Director of Marketing & Development, told Finger Lakes News Radio that, unlike last year, money raised through this year’s campaign will not go toward a specific project. Instead, it will go toward Unity House’s unrestricted annual fund allowing leadership to use it where it’s most needed.
“It brings in the extra cushion that allows us to go above and beyond the mandated services that the state says we must provide so we can provide even better higher level, higher quality support to the people in our care.”
According to Buck, examples of where the funding could be spent include smart boards for classrooms, field trips, arts & crafts supplies, medications, and transportation.
The Giving Tuesday campaign is open now through the end of December 3. Donations can be made here.
Founded in Auburn in 1977, Unity House provides services to those with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders in Cayuga, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Seneca, Tioga, Tompkins, and Wayne Counties.
Giving Tuesday encourages people across the globe to do good and support nonprofit organizations. Held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this year, Giving Tuesday is December 3.
