The numbers are in and United Way of Cayuga County has raised over $630,000 for area nonprofits.
The organization announced that its annual fundraising campaign has raised $631,100 to benefit nonprofit organizations throughout the county. Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Julisa Stone with the group said the money will support a variety of programs.
“The grants provide funding for a variey of different programs in the areas of education, health, financial stability, and safety net needs,” said Stone.
A mini-grant program also allows nonprofits to apply for up to $1,000 on a rolling basis throughout the year.
United Way had hoped to raise $750,000. Stone added that, despite falling short of its goal, the organization will still be able to support the community at the level it has in past years.
“Luckily, in the past, we’ve had some extremely successful years and our board and volunteers have invested well so we’re able to support the community at the level we have for the past couple of years,” continued Stone,” but the support from the community moving forward is going to be more important than ever.”
United Way will announce which nonprofits have been selected for funding in May with the money being distributed in July.
