United Way Launches Platform to Connect Agencies & Volunteers

SHARE NOW

United Way of Cayuga County has made it easier for nonprofits and the community to connect for volunteer opportunities.

The group has launched volunteercayuga.com, a hub where nonprofits can post upcoming volunteer opportunities, such as events, campaigns, one-time volunteer opportunities, or board and committee openings. Speaking to FLX Local Media, Campaign & Marketing Manager Stone-Szpaicher said the new hub will better allow nonprofits to promote a multitude of volunteer opportunities.

“[Take] a nursing home; maybe they want holiday cards for their residents, so they can post ‘seeking holiday card makers,’ so community members can create a holiday card… the types of volunteer opportunities are endless.”

Additionally, community members can create a profile, view opportunities, and pick which ones they want to help with.

“When [community members] make an account, they can put in their availability, their preferences, restrictions. If you’re looking for boar opportunities and you’re a marketing professional or you’re a carpenter and you want to help with hands-on projects, you can put those types of things on the platform.”

Stone-Szpaicher added that United Way simply hosts the site. When a person reaches out to a nonprofit, they are connected directly; United Way does not act as a middleman.

Another feature of the hub is its ability to allow people to become a fan of a nonprofit, allowing them to receive updates whenever said nonprofit posts a new opportunity or event.

“It’s a great community online hub around philanthropy and giving back to the community.”

For those interested in using the hub but are having trouble setting up an account, United Way will host two webinars to assist. They will be held on November 13 and December 9, both from 12:00-1:00p. To register for a webinar, contact Office and Programs Assistant Administrator Sarah Sayles at [email protected].

Sayles is also available for one-on-one virtual or phone sessions.
